Ascend Development Days

sphinxx is the network for women leaders and Ascend development days are our premiere initiative. Our vision is to see women equally represented in leadership roles, in our workplaces, businesses and communities.

As you know, there are many networking events for women; and Ascend is not much like them. Our sphinxx programs bring women together in a meaningful way to specifically address the personal and professional gaps that they say are holding them back; and deliver advice and education for employers to help them in finding and keeping the best women on their teams.

Feedback from our participants prove that this type of positive and safe environment enables the participants to share their experiences and support one another is very rare in the business sector, and incredibly valuable. 96% of participants say they would recommend the Ascend development days to a friend.

“Fantastic presenters and extremely relevant content - one of the best investments I’ve made for my personal & professional development."   Cathy Reber, VP - Head of Global Business Transformation, American Express

The agenda for Ascend is different each quarter - and in August we are focusing on getting over the hump and mobilising a force behind you to ensure you close in on your goals for 2010. We have a first class line up of experts and leading practitioners who will share with you what you can do differently and better to build your resilience and team for success at what is typically a tough time in the calendar cycle. And yes - even though the program is designed by women, for women, based on feedback from women in senior business roles - men are welcome to attend.

The Ascend days are run quarterly in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane - click here to see our latest lineup of speakers in your state.

"Today's session has really inspired me to be a better me - both professionally and personally - and helped to provide terrific techniques to be able to make this possible".  - Kristie Keppel, Senior Product Manager, Bulla Dairy Foods

"I enjoyed meeting other women in a fun and fostering environment".  - Helen Frangos, General Manager - Corporate Support, The University of Melbourne

“A very informative day with good time allocated for networking.  All the presenters were lively and very interesting.  A day well spent out of the office!”  -
Lisa Kelly, Customer Experience Senior Specialist, CA

“Days like [Ascend] are important to attend. They help ensure you do not become instutionalised in your thinking. They validate what you think and remind you that you aren’t going crazy!”  - Carolyn Booth, Broadcast Service Manager, Foxtel

The Ascend series is supported by Westpac Womens Markets, which is focused on not only educating women in business, but also inspiring, motivating and supporting them on their journey to achieve personal and financial success.

More about the Ascend Development Days:

Leading directors and commentators put quotas firmly back on the agenda - changing attitudes of men and women force a rethink on quotas

Tuesday, December 07, 2010

Two weeks ago the Australian Institute of Company Directors issued a press release talking up the effectiveness of initiatives implemented by it, the ASX and other organizations in breaking down the gender equity divide. So far in 2010, 51 women have been appointed to ASX 200 boards, compared to only 10 in 2009 and the proportion of female board members is now 10.3 per cent, compared to just 8.3 per cent at the beginning of this year.  So why is it that - at the same time - a number of high profile directors and commentators have come out saying that progress is still too slow and that the situation won’t change enough until quotas are introduced? Read More

Take more risks, don’t over-plan your career and don’t know it all but know who to call – career tips from Ascend speaker and company director, Lynn Ralph

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Meek and mild is not how I’d describe Lynn Ralph, board performance specialist with Cameron Ralph and non-executive director of the Sydney Swans and The Sydney Institute.  In past lives she was also a successful investment manager and ran the Sydney Dance Company.  And those in attendance at Ascend in Sydney on Friday would agree: this is a woman who pulls no punches, makes no apologies for her successful career and yet doesn’t take herself too seriously.   Read More
